The following spring the fox pup was sitting by the cloudberry bush, waiting for his brother. He had been told to stay put. The hunter ambled up to him and growled.
"You tricked me once, you won't trick me twice! Now I'll steal your pelt and you'll make a fine jacket!" the hunter bellowed, glaring at the fox pup.
"Please Mr. Hunter, my summer coat is quite thin. My fur would let the cold in and freeze whoever's inside. Come back in the winter, and my fur will be soft, thick and warm. That'll get you some gold." the fox pup suggested.
"Hmmm alright, I'll wait, and get more gold!" the hunter said greedily, and went off.
The pup's older brother came back a bit after. "How are you doing? Eventful day I suppose." he asked, voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Oh yes, it's been a good day!" the fox pup said cheekily, and they went back to their den.
You know what happened that winter. The fox pup crouched in the snow when he saw the hunter, and cozied up in his den while the hunter's fingers froze.
