The Sorrow Strait

Soliara and Shyra sat across from eachother on different banks of the deadly Starlight River. Over time it has only gotten harder to cross, to the point where one has to go further downstream to the neighboring towns of Whirrow and Lia. There was no way to get directly from Soliara to Shyra, but soon this would change. A great sorceress, Videi decided to change this. She built a spectacular rainbow bridge of lovely arcs and swirls that could only be created with magic. Soon after however, Videi died in a terrible accident on that very bridge.The bridge started acting up, moving itself to knock off passenger. The spectacular bridge, once revered for it's beautiful craftsmanship, turned to a sinister location which was rumoured to be haunted by Videi herself. Transforming shape was not the bridge's only lethal tactic. It also often simply dissapeared whenever it sensed enough people in the middle of the bridge.

Eventually a group of maniacal arsonists burned the bridge till the ashes stained the water grey and the last of the dying embers were snuffed out. The area where the bridge used to be was a wide strait, in waters infested with deadly animals that could only be found in that nook of South Constella. The strait was named Videi Strait after the creator of the bridge, but soon after the fire, more strange things occured. Almost every boat or ship that got anywhere near the strait capsized or sank. Some reported a large animal that resembled a plesiosaur pulling people into the water. Others claimed that a ghost of the bridge appeared in the pewter water and that people who crossed it dissapeared into an unknown realm. Now, a new bridge connects Soliara and Shyra, well away from the treacherous waters of the Sorrow Strait. Yet even now, many uncanny things happen by Sorrow Strait, and fishermen and sailors who venture into the now tame Starlight river still recite the age-old warning -

Beware, Beware of Sorrow Strait

Where ships will sink

And doom will await

to remind all who live in the two parallel cities of the tale of a vicious bridge and a sadistic strait.
