The Great Quarantime Story Challenge

Hello fellow writers, nyctophobes, and bread enthusiasts. I am here to announce a completely random spur-of-the-moment idea, which I have not run through anyone, but who cares because the idea gears are turning! (haha I'm a manager so nobody can fire meeeeeee)

We will have an official Quarantime Story Challenge! Write your best stories, and submit them to me by June 29th. But wait! There's a twist.

How absolutely boring would it be to just let you write about whatever you want!? I have to provide some guidelines I'm afraid...

Firstly, you'll have to select one of 5 prompts.

  1. Write a story ending solely with the words. "Then it was all golden". You can include those words in a sentence, as a speech thingie, or anything you want, but the last words in your story, must be "Then it was all golden". No "Then it was all golden" she said, none of the "Then it was all golden." and they smiled. Just the words

  2. Write a story that starts with a knock on the door. Whether it's a serial killer, a friend, or a surprise birthday party on the other side of that door, you can decide. Just make sure to knock first.

  3. Write a story about a character's 24th birthday. Whoever that character is. Whatever that character is. The story is centered around it being their 24th birthday. It doesn't even have to be the main character. It could be a friend. An enemy. A sibling. Some person they don't even know- yet. Just make sure it's about a 24th birthday.

  4. Write a story about a character that will die in a short amount of time, preferably less than 2 months. Whether they're taking advantage of that time and living life to the fullest, or going around apologizing and fixing their mistakes. They can be any age, any species, anything! Just make sure to kill them off real quick. Although preferable, they don't have to be the main character.

  5. Now for my favorite, for obvious reasons. Write a story, with a pet in it. Any sort of pet. It doesn't even have to last the whole story. But there should be a pet of some sort in it. Whether it's a cat, a dragon, or a Tasmanian devil, there should be a pet.

I would like to know which prompt everyone is doing, though you can always change whenever you want. The due date is a long time away, so I hope you can all manage to submit a story. One last thing! The story should be at least 500 words, because I plan to compile all the submissions into--

*imagine there's a drumroll*
