It's the last day of this year's National Poetry Month Challenge! But don't leave yet, because along with today's post, we'll be having a 150 post special and the Weekly Tot (I haven't forgotten about that!) today or tomorrow, and the grand finale of this challenge on Monday. Please keep in mind that poetry submissions for Monday are due today, and without further ado, let's read some poems!
Calligraphy Strokes
Calligraphy
An art, indeed
Takes some practice
For years and years
Most people draw extra lines
Faking the thick downstrokes
Or leaving them hollow
But it's still an art
'Faux', it's called
Either way, the brush will sway
Thin lines up
Press and pull down
It's harder than it looks
But more beautiful than it sounds
Ah, calligraphy. Looking back at my poem, I could've made it a bit better by changing the focus of it, but I'll leave it for now. Wait, that gives me an idea...
Moving on to Noodly's poem, she has another lengthy one! Here it is.
Just A Pen
There's something magic
About the flow of ink
How the minute you pick it up
You really start to think
How ideas well up inside you
And pour out of your pen
Like it's magic
What is it then?
Is it just an instrument
For writing out your words?
Your inspiration
Making ideas flit like birds
Is it really magic?
Some sort of special wand
Or is the magic always there?
Behind the thistles and fronds
Maybe it's the sword
That lashes out at the clutter
The spark, the flame
That makes your mind flutter
Maybe it's the key
The thoughts were always there
Maybe it's the string
Holding everything together
Can you ever know?
Whether its from pen, or ink
That creative flow
From hope or reason
From sorrow or joy
Whatever it is
That makes your fingers fly
The thing that makes you
Want to try
In the end
It's all the same
For all of it
You are to blame
For picking it up
For that urge inside
For the words escaping
For the meaning implied
The pen is
Whatever you make it
A tool, a toy
A wand, a key
A sword or an instrument
Or something wild and free
Let it soar across the page
Make your words last
The paper is your stage
Let it out from its cage
In it's core
Just a pen
Just a pen
Nothing more
Wow. That's all I have to say. Just wow. Starting each stanza by imagining what a pen could be, the elegant word choice, and the impeccable flow from line to line...can we have a round of applause for Noodly Girl please? This may very well be one of my favorite poems. Although I haven't really read any of Edgar Allen Poe's works...
A huge thank you to Noodly Girl for submitting poems throughout this contest, and I hope that you wrote your own poems too! Remember that it's never too late to share them with me, although they won't get featured on Quarantime at this point. Today is also the last day to submit poems for Monday's grand finale, so click the second button below for the link. The first button will lead you to the original challenge page, in case you're new here (welcome!). Happy Friday!
